  1. I heard about this on the news. I really feel for the families of the people who died, and for those who lost everything they had. It’s concerning because this could happen here in Ontario forests too. It makes me thankful for the fire fighters that tried their best to save lives, because although the results after the fire were devistating, without them, who knows how much worse it could have been.

  2. @tyson @kayla, you both are very right when it comes down to death, it can happen any time …

Wildfires affect everyone and High Level is just as likely to be hit as Slave lake. If we are hit by one what will you do? You are not prepared for it and how would you feel if you lost someone. Wildfires are a very serious thing and you can’t really understand the effect until it happens to you.

  4. Slave lake is the perfect example that we can all die at any given moment, it also shows us that we should use our time while we have it. Cause this could happen any day.

  5. Since the Slave Lake disaster, I have gone over my life and realized that something like that can happen in my own tow. Slave Lake is not that far from here and if it had gotten any worse it might have reached out town. I also realize that a fire like that could happen in our own town. We are surrounded by forest so the possibility is high. Which makes me reflect on my life and how I should live till I die.

  6. This was a horrible disaster, I personally feel terrible for the people who had lived there and lost there homes. It must have been scary to know that your town was on fire and that you had to get as soon as possible.

  7. My Dad was part of putting out that fire and I’m so glad that no one was killed or injured in the fire. I am in a group on an art website and alot of people lost their homes to the fire.

  8. I have really enjoyed my grade 8 with the 8R class. I hope you all have a great summer and all the best in grade 9.

  9. @Paige
I agree with you that we can donate to our close towns and cities to help out and stick together. I believe that people can work as a team to keep each other going and not let each other fall through the cracks.

  10. If my house burned down or someone that I knew did then I would be very sad, because you would lose everything that you could not take with you. I disagree with you Alexis becuase what if your mom and dad went there for a vacation and never came back, don’t you think that you would be affected, or not?

  11. It doesn’t affect my life at all because I know and always have known that forest fires and any other natural disasters can happen anywhere at any time. It doesn’t just happen anywhere across the world, but i don’t need to change anything about me because of a potential natural disaster.

  12. Alexis, I don’t agree at all with you. Does it not bother you that hundreds of people lost their homes? If it was your house that burnt down and people didn’t care, or it didn’t affect them that you lost everything that you have, how would you feel?

  13. It shows us that, that could have been us and we should treasure every moment we have because it might be the last.

  14. The forest fires don’t effect me that much. I realize we face disasters like the rest of the world but I don’t need to change my life because of natural disasters. We may be vulnerable but everyone has always been vulnerable to mother nature’s powers.

  15. I do not live my life different because I know that High Level is not that will not easily to get a be in danger of a forest fire. I am aware that there is a lot of natural disasters that can happen like a fire, but in High Level there is not a high possibility that it will happen therefore it doesn’t bother me.

  16. Slave lake’s tradegy has shaked a lot worlds including mine. We are very vulnerable to mother nature. She is full of power and strength. I’m sure that we are going to be more careful with fire. Many have been traumatised by this event, we should do as much as we can to help.

  17. It just shows us that any moment could be the last for you and you should live every one to its fullest.

  18. It hasn’t changed my view that much. I have always been aware that bad things could happen here, just different sorts of things. I think that we are vulnerable but we do have some steadiness, come on we live in Canada in the middle of nowhere. There are less possible disasters possible than in many other places. I will live my life the same as always enjoying what I can and hating what I can. In other words I will be living life.

  19. The Slave Lake fire was a very scary thing; and to think that it was so close to where we are…. Because of the fire it made me very cautious and worried. I have some friends that live there and their houses almost got completely destroyed. I can’t even begin to think about how horrible it would be if my house burned down. I have realized that people need to live life to the fullest because you never know when you will die. One moment could be your last and you never know when it will be. You have to be nice to everyone around you and try to live a good, long life. I am trying to be nicer and trying to do everything possible to set myself up to have a good future. The Slave Lake fire was a horrible thing, but I think it was a huge eye opener to many people.

  20. A much discussed problem in our day are the fires around Alberta that are affecting peoples lives immensely. With all these fires it has made me realize that we are all at stake, if a fire started near High Level and my house burnt down i would be in pieces. My family has prepared things in the summer in case of a fire so we won’t lose everything. As for the people that weren’t prepared I feel sorry for them but it’s good to see the donation bins and know that there are people in this world that care. People that are willing to donate and share their homes with the people in need of them.
