Letters to Collin McNally

A Prince Edward Island mom who posted on social media about how she had been forced to pull her son out of school because of years of relentless bullying says she is overwhelmed by the amount of support she has received online.

14-year-old son, Collin, has been a victim of severe verbal and physical bullying for more than seven years at school.

He has  endured many injuries, including bruises on his trunk from being repeatedly thrown into a urinal, and marks around his neck from being hung by his hoodie at school. His mom also showed a photo of his teeth that had to be wired back into place because they had been knocked out with a metal thermos.

Two weeks ago, she said her son finally fought back and punched one boy in the face. Then, last Thursday, police escorted her son home after they had received a call that 20 teens had gathered at a local hockey rink to watch her son get beaten up. She said police prevented the attack but the incident was so frightening to her and her son that she chose to remove Collin from school.

“My son is my best friend and I cannot watch him suffer anymore,” she said.

She added in another post that she has no interest in naming the other students involved.

Write a letter to Collin to let him know that we are thinking about him.

Locked in Time

lockedintime

What would you do if you were Locked in Time?

Would you be happy, sad, or angry?

How would you feel if you knew you would never age, and stay the way you are now forever?

Write at least two paragraphs (ten sentences) about how you would feel and what you would do if you knew you had to be the age you are now forever.

Keep calm and time travel!

Time to plan a trip of a lifetime! If you could travel to any place, at any time (past or future), when and where would you go? Why?

Don’t forget!

Be creative, make sure to embellish, embellish, embellish!

Your post should be enough to describe to us where you would go, what period of time you are going there, and why you picked that time and place. Don’t forget to include what you would do there.

For example, if you decide to go to High Level in the year 2020 to see how you do during your graduation, or if you want to go back in the past to see how people lived back then, or to go visit the dinosaurs! Nowhere is off limits.

Have fun time traveling! 🙂

Who am I? (The first post of 2015)

We are off to a beautiful start this year, and I would like to keep the positive energy flowing! For this journal entry, you should write a minimum of ten sentences about YOU. It can include where you’re from, what you like to do in your free time, or even what you want to do when you graduate high school. Make sure to include at least one interesting fact about you  that someone may not know (you once swam in the ocean, you ate shark meat, you love to skydive, or you once finished an entire video games in one sitting!) Don’t forget, positive language! When you are writing about yourself, think positive and be positive. Write about the things you like about yourself 🙂

For example,

My name is Ms. Gosse. I am from Torbay, Newfoundland. I love to paint and go for walks at the park with my roommate, Heather. I am the youngest of six children. I have two cats, Havi and Silva. In my spare time I like to read, write, and volunteer. My favorite season is Autumn. My second language is German. An interesting fact about me is that I am colorblind. When I get older I hope to be an amazing teacher.

Six Doors. Which door will you Enter?

There are so many possibilities when considering a fictional world.  If you could choose any of these six to live in, which one would you choose and why?  How does it unfold?

  1. Short description of each place:

Narnia: Magical world in the Chronicles of Narnia book series where ordinary kids become prince and princesses and the king, who they try to save, is a talking lion.

Neverland: The land where Peter Pan brings three kids from England.  In Neverland you don’t have to grow up and have responsibilities, you can play and dress up forever.  The only downside is the evil Captain Hook.

Wonderland: The dream land where Alice lands when she falls down the rabbit hole.  Wonderland is filled with talking animals and flowers, a disappearing cheshire cat, a mad hatter, and a queen of hearts who tries to get rid of Alice.

Hogwarts: The school for wizards and witches in Harry Potter where Harry faces the struggle between good and evil and has many adventures with his friends, Ron and Hermione.

Camelot: Is the castle and court associated with King Arthur.  It is a place where knights are deemed nobles and princesses are to be saved.

Middle Earth: The continent in which the Lord of the Rings takes place.  The hobbits, men, elves, and valar are on the good side while Melkor along with the orcs and dragons are evil.
