Create a character. Use interesting vocabulary to describe him or her. Make your character come alive for the reader,both physically and emotionally. Reveal their personalities through expression of thoughts, feelings, actions and words.
Example: He was a tall burly man, beady of eye and rubicund of visage. He began to talk about his travels to distant parts. He squared his broad shoulders in the chair and spoke of strange scenes and doughty deeds, of wars and plagues and strange peoples. His manner was so impressive that his listeners became slightly nervous………
